Hair straighteners. Some people love them, others hate them, me? I worship them. I have very curly, and sadly frizzy, hair, so straighteners have been a close friend for many many years. I use them less than I used to in an attempt to limit heat damage but they are the only thing that make my hair manageable. But here's a confession that shocked me when I realised.. my current set of straighteners are 10 years old. Yes you did read that correctly, I've had them for 10 years and they still work very well.

But because I haven't bought a pair of straighteners in 10 years I don't really know what's out there in the curl killing market, so could I find a pair that worked as well or even better than my beloved almost-vintage set? Thankfully, the answer is yes.

The xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Straighteners claim to be a "professional flat iron" with tourmaline ceramic plates that will achieve "salon-worthy shine" thanks to the infrared technology.

Now I read phrases like "salon-worthy shine" and promises of smooth, silky hair with less heat damage and I think to myself; that's all very nice but you clearly don't know my hair. I enter these situations with fair amount of scepticism, but I was ready to give these straighteners a good go and see if they matched their claims.

First things first, the packaging. I know it's not the most important aspect, but I am a sucker for a nice box. The xtava packaging looks amazing, the outer box has this very upmarket gold circle design, with an equally swish black box inside that contains the straightners, which in turn are inside their own foil lined bag which means you can put them away before they're fully cool (yay!). I was really impressed with the presentation and it definitely suggests a much higher price point.

Now the important part, do they work? Below is my hair after washing and air drying, with the after straightening next to it. What. A. Difference.

I am beyond impressed with these xtava straighteners. They heated up really quickly (I go to 200C normally), they are very comfortable to hold with no risk of burning your fingers, the wide plates did a great job and straightened with just a couple of passes leaving my hair smooth and shiny. After washing my hair it normally takes over an hour to get it mostly straight, with these straighteners it was perfectly straight in less than half the time. It also stayed straight for much much much longer. My hair is normally wavy by the next morning, this showed no signs of losing the straightness (is that a word?) 2-3 after using these straighteners. Not only has my hair stayed straighter, it's looked 10x better than normal. My hair has been shinier, and looked so much healthier and stronger. There was none of that hair straightening smell we all know so well, and I just can't tell you how much I love them.

RECAP TIME!
  • They straighten quicker than any other straighteners I've ever used
  • My hair stayed straight for longer, looked shiny, felt healthy and strong
  • Easy to hold, easy to use, cool down quickly, heat up quickly
  • Gorgeous packaging and an insulated bag for them

So with all that being said, guess the price.. £29.99, I have spent much much much more than that on straighteners in the past and these outperformed all of them. If you have or want GHDs I'd say buy these instead.

They are truly amazing, straightening my hair has become so much easier, looks better, lasts longer and just wow.

You can buy your own from Amazon here and I'm fairly sure you won't regret it. With Christmas just around the corner they'd make a great gift.

My old pair that I'd clung onto for the last 10 years? They've gone, left the building, never to be seen again. I would 100% recommend these xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Hair Straighteners to anyone and I absolutely adore them.

I'd love to know your thoughts, do you straighten your hair or do you embrace your natural hair? Drop me a comment below, I always love hearing from you guys!

Stay safe, x
