What Does the Future of Clothes Shopping Look Like?

How do you shop for clothes? Are you an online shopper or someone who prefers to purchase instore? Online shopping is obviously quite a recent development and it's taken off massively, but what does the future hold for the world of retail?
I came across results from a survey that looked at some future concepts that could change the way we buy our clothes, and I had to share it with you! You can see the results below..

  • 25% of women stated that they would be interested in Geo-targeted discounts and voucher codes. This means that when you pop into a store or walk past, your phone will instantly receive a discount or voucher based on your location & shopping history. 19% of men also showed an interest in this. For me this is a double edged sword.. on one hand I love the idea of getting discounts and vouchers that are specific to me, but then do I really want someone knowing exactly what I buy and where? I'm not sure..
  • Virtual stores with touch screens was quite popular with both men (24%) and women (23%). Instead of walking into the shop and having rows of clothes, you'll have touchscreens with the full catalogue. You could then reserve items in your size to either try on or purchase in store. This really is the merger of online and on street shopping, you look online on your smartphone see what you want, prices etc, then go and try it on without worrying about it being in stock. My only concern with this is that it would take away some of the joy of going into a shop on a whim and finding something great when you're browsing the shelves.
  • Changing rooms connected to social media. One word: EEK! Apparently digital mirrors already exist (do they?) but these would connect to your social media and then post photos of the outfit you're trying on to get opinions from your friends/followers. When the internet is already flooded with changing room selfies do we really need this? I don't want the mirror spying on me.. Unsurprisingly this was the least popular with both men and women, with under 10% of both genders showing an interest.
  • Personalised holographic mannequins. It's long been an issue that clothes mannequins don't represent the VAST majority of people who are buying the clothes they're modelling. So how about a mannequin that shows how those clothes fit someone of your size and shape? They could also show suggestions for accessories to go with the top you're considering. This concept was the most popular with women, with 25% showing an interest compared to 21% of men. This another idea that divides me really, I like the idea of seeing how clothes fit me, but can you imagine the chaos if everyone in the store has their own personalised hologram hanging around?!
  • Self service contactless payment. This is probably the nearest to becoming a reality. With contactless payment becoming bigger every year, self service payment would probably utilise a smartphone app and would enable you to redeem discounts, return items and of course pay for them quickly and without needing to queue for a manned checkout. The flipside of this is that less people will be employed at the till, which would be a bad thing.. what happens if the internet goes off? Interestingly this was the most popular concept with men, with 27% saying they liked the sound of it, compared to just 20% of women!

I'd love to know your thoughts on the survey results and the concepts themselves. Can you see yourself using any of them in the future? Are there any that you absolutely would never use ? Drop me a comment below!

Stay safe, x

Oh my! Call me old-fashioned, but I still just want to go to the store, try on my pieces (w/o the help of social media), and purchase what I like. Contactless payment sounds nice though.

The global market is experiencing a rise in e-commerce. A huge number of people are now using the internet for their shopping needs. Different regions have consumer oriented markets thanks to the availability of internet. The internet shopping trend in the world reflects consumer preferences as far as variety and convenience go. Online systems and technological development has led many companies to offer their services and goods online to match the preferences of the consumers. Smartphones are now being used to make purchases and conduct online transactions.
