When it comes to designing your entire home from scratch, or the space that you’re looking to renovate, you can be faced with a lot of decisions. Not only do you need to be able to decide on thing like fabric samples and flooring, but you also have a lot of other important decisions to make that can affect the build or layout of the house.

During the process, you want to do your best at avoiding decorating mistakes. It might seem like a big job, but by weighing up the decisions you have to start with, you’ll be able to feel sure in your choices and create a home design that you’ll love and cherish for years.

Style Or Function
First of all, it’s one of the hardest decisions that you’ll have to make but when you do, you’ll feel a lot better for it. You often can find yourself battling between the idea of having a stylish home and one that serves a purpose. But, you don’t have to at all. You can actually find items, designs and layouts that serve both, especially when it comes to things like storage ideas.

Modern Or Minimal
Then, you can find yourself stuck between two different overarching design themes. You may have always preferred one, such as modern, but as you start to design your home you feel as if you’re leaning towards another, like minimal. Here what you need to do is find styles that work together to create one main theme - one you love. So if you’re creating a kitchen and stores like Tap Warehouse have pull out tap options that suit both styles, go for it and see how it works.

Creative Or Organised
Another big decision can be between different functions for a space. Depending on the space in question, you might want it to serve one main purpose or several. Take your office design. You might want it to channel creative vibes so that you can feel inspired but also be very organised and efficient too. It might seem like both goals contradict each other, but you can make them work and serve a greater purpose.

Neutral Or Colour
Then comes the question of colour. What options do you have and how do they work together? You might find that you have a range of different colour preferences and they all suit your taste in one way. But, if you’re wondering how they work together, you might want to pick a colour palette that combined a bunch of different shades that complement each other perfectly.

In Or Out
As you’re designing, you might also be thinking about your outside space. As you design the details for both inside and out, you might find that you’re starting to duplicate things - especially if you have an outside living space right next to your kitchen, dining room or lounge. So, what you might want to do is work out what should go where. Do you really need a grill inside and out, or can you choose one over the other? Then, you’ll be left with a space that serves your needs perfectly.

I'd love to know how your approach a design challenge, do you have any tips to share?

Stay safe, x
