![]() Hello hello! I've been away for while, but I am back (while I can anyway).. make sure to let me know what I've missed so that I can catch up with you all.. Now some of you will know that I've struggled with my sleep for many years. If I'm honest I can't remember a time when I didn't have sleep issues, and I am always looking at ways to fix them. Lavender room sprays? Done it. Relaxing bath oils? Yep got them. Massages? Tried that. To keep things short, I've tried everything and none of it helped in the slightest. So when I saw the S+ by ResMed it hit a chord with me immediately and I knew that I had to give it a go. Could this be the thing that turns around my sleep story? Well I was lucky enough to be chosen to review a pre-release version of the S+ by ResMed, and I've been putting it to the test. So this post is both a review and a sleep diary, so you can see whether or not it worked for me. So let's start with the S+ itself, it is essentially a clever cube! You plug it into the wall via a provided USB cable and plug (which also has an extra slot for your phone cable). You connect to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. And it sets next to your bed either in it's frame or out, depending on the height, position of your bedside table. Setup of the S+ is really easy and it's a case of downloading the app, plugging the S+ in, connecting via Bluetooth and then answering a couple of lifestyle questions. I've put together a quick setup slideshow for you below: Once you have setup the app and know it's connected to your S+ properly, you need to think about where you are going to position the cube. The logo should face your chest or back when your lying in bed (don't worry about duvets it gets through them). You ideally want it level with your mattress, but you'll be able to see on your phone that it's working properly. When it's time to go to sleep you just open up the app, and tap sleep, you will then be asked a couple of questions about the sort of things you've drunk that day and the amount of exercise you've done. It will then go to it's sleep screen which shows the light levels, temperature etc in your bedroom. The S+ will then record your sleep throughout the night, including (and this is something I was really impressed by) disruptions. Now I knew I had disrupted sleep, but actually seeing a number on the screen shows that I am experiencing them every night, and usually about 5 times. I just wish I knew what they were! When you wake up, you press the green stop tracking button, and the S+ will sync all it's data to your phone and you will be presented with a graph like mine below. You can then see how much sleep you had, look at your sleep score, and most importantly, see how your sleep was divided between the various types. A major feature of the S+ is the Sleep Mentor, and I have to say I love this feature. The Sleep Mentor analyses your sleep and then gives you tips on how you can improve it. For the first few days it will just analyse but then you'll get daily feedback. For me the main focus during the sleep diary was my deep sleep, so the Sleep Mentor would give me tips every morning and tell me how I was doing! You can see my sleep diary with graphs and associated Sleep Mentor feedback below.. (p.s. the slideshow won't show the photos in date order, but you can see the date on the photos). As I've already said I love the Sleep Mentor feature, it gave me some fantastic tips and pointed out where I was slacking. I knew I had let my excercise levels drop but the app gave me the nudge I needed to get back into action and my sleep score improved because of it. It also suggested a warm bath before bed, or an evening walk to get some fresh air.. both tips I took on board and have now incorporated them into my lifestlye & feel better for it!
Other features of the S+ include music & sounds to gentley relax you to sleep and wake you in the morning, mind clear which lets you make notes for the morning so you have clear head and personalised sleep analysis. To round-up, I found the S+ incredibly easy to setup and use, it's very user-friendly. The sleep graphs show you exactly how you're doing and I've become mildly obsessed with checking my sleep score every morning. It enables you to pinpoint environmental issues such as light, temp or noise and help you fix them. Sleep Mentor talks you through various tips designed for you as an individual to target certain problem areas of your sleep, and they work! I went from really struggling to waking up feeling refreshed and actually having the app data to back up that improvement! My deep sleep in particular really improved, leaving me with more energy and a generally happier mood (which is good for everyone around me too). If like me you've struggled with your sleep for years and tried every remedy under the sun you've probably spent quite a bit trying to fix your sleep issues. The S+ by ResMed costs £129.95 (and you can buy direct here). So although it's a slightly larger outlay, you get results from the first night and you will see a difference. I've seen my sleep turn around in just 2 weeks of using the S+ and I am still using it and will continue to do so. The proof is in the stats, my lowest sleep score was 74 and my highest was 90, a pretty big improvement that I can actually feel in myself. I would fully recommend the S+, it's changed my sleep and it could change yours too! For full info on the S+ by ResMed you can visit their site here. And finally, if you're not sure whether or not you struggle with sleep (it can be confusing I know), give this study a read that shows Brits are missing an hour of sleep! So that's my sleep diary and review of the S+ by ResMed.. I'd love to know your thoughts, especially if you have sleep issues too, so please drop me a comment below or say hello on twitter! Stay safe, x
