Above you can how I attempted the first design in the magazine and it's also my favourite!
Art Therapy is a weekly magazine that costs £0.99 for the first issue and £2.99 for every issue after that. The magazine's publisher, Hachette, have sold over 350,000 adult colouring books in France so you can be certain that they know what they're doing!
Every issue comes with a range of designs, some art supplies (the first issue comes with the pencils in the first picture), a completed design to give you inspiration, colouring hints & tips (see below) and some insights into mindfulness and well-being!
You may have read about the recent "craze" in adult colouring books, but have you tried it for yourself? I'm sure we all remember spending hours as children colouring in all sorts of pictures and getting infuriated if we didn't have the right crayon, or (god forbid) we went outside the lines! Or perhaps you have more recent memories of colouring with your own children?!
I really wanted to give it a go, especially as things have been quite stressful here over the last couple of months with illnesses etc. Could it really give me that sense of calm I craved and let me give my mind a bit of a break? I got my hands on the first issue of Art Therapy to find out!
I really enjoyed this magazine, and it really is so much more than just a colouring book! You learn about different colours and their effects, different techniques for your designs, mindfulness to allow yourself to fully relax and you get to complete some beautiful illustrations.
After completing issue 1 I can't think of a better way to spend a few moments each day to give yourself a chance to unwind. I found myself sitting down in the afternoon with a cup of tea, or even putting away the laptop and completing a design in front of the TV in the evening! Finally something to draw me away from all my screens!
Below you can see some more of my completed designs. I think I'm going to put them all in a frame!
I'd definitely recommend Art Therapy to any/all of you!! It's fantastic and was incredible at getting me to relax and destress. Now I just need someone to buy me a subscription.... ;)
