As many of you know, I have a rather beautiful spaniel called Max, and as all you fellow dog (and cat) owners will know; their food costs a fortune these days!
For me it's not just the cost of the food, but I struggle to carry big bags of dry food and the big tin multipacks.. I'm a strong person but my wrists are a real problem area (you'll know this if you've followed my posts on my joint condition before).
So what's the solution? Well, it could be PetShop.co.uk who are an online independent pet store, as the name suggests! The business was actually started by founder Adam, because his mother struggled to carry pet food home herself, and since then they've tried to offer a great range at good prices, with all the convenience of having the items delivered to your door!
I was lucky enough to be given the chance to try out PetShop.co.uk for myself and I'm really impressed with the ethics of the company. They're eco-friendly and try keep their local area clean & tidy, they are committed to great customer service, they are pet owners and lovers themselves so they have you and your pets best interest at heart, they also support Dogs Trust and sponsor local guide dogs... don't they sound great?
They stock a wide range of items, from dog food and treats, to beds, toys, medicines, leads, kennels etc and carry items for your cats, birds, fish, rabbits and more! They are a one-stop shop for all your animal related needs.
The first item I tried from PetShop.co.uk was this Harringtons dry dog food... I always mix wet and dry for Max but we hadn't tried Harringtons before. I like the idea that is natural with nothing added but with plenty of health benefits! Max certainly liked it and wolfed it down as normal. Another big plus about this brand is that the packaging is compostable... giving Max natural food and helping the environment? Yes please! This 2kg bag of Harringtons Adult Dog Complete Dry Dog Food in Lamb and Rice flavour is £4.16, which I know is cheaper than the supermarket price and can be found here.
Next we moved onto his wet tinned food and it was another new brand for us... I had never even heard of almo nature before. But again thse are free of artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. They are suitable for all dogs, even those with sensitive tummies (which thankfully doesn't include Max). But the fact that they contain 100% Human grade ingredients really impresses me, if I wouldn't eat it why should my dog? We tried both beef & ham and Skipjack tuna... both of which Max absolutely adored! He particularly liked the Tuna but I think that's because it was smelly! At £1.94 these are more expensive than they tins Max normally eats, but I would definitely consider buying them again the future. You can find all the flavour from almo nature here and you can see the beef & ham before Max gulped it down below.
The last product we tried was another first... these are roasted chicken breast fillets from Pet Munchies. I knew that Max would find these very tasty, so I was looking forward to trying them out with him. These are once again completely natural, these are just chicken breast fillets that have been roasted... they're a bit like chicken jerky!
Normally Max virtually inhales treats they disappear so fast, but he really had to chew these and definitely enjoyed them. He's never been a big chewer so I wouldn't give them to him regularly, but I do think they'll come in handy when he needs distracting or calming down so I'll definitely be buying more for when fireworks start later in the year. Because he's not a big chewer I found it easier to cut these into slightly smaller pieces rather than giving him the whole strip, but how you approach them would depend on your dog!
Max found them completely delicious and literally chased me when I had the (resealable hurray) bag in my hands. I will definitely buy these again and look forward to trying some of the other treats in the range. These cost £3.49 and you can see the full range here.
I couldn't really be more impressed with everything we've tried from PetShop.co.uk or with the site itself, everything is top quality without being too expensive. I'm not sure if everything is cheaper than supermarkets, but a few things definitely are.
Another feature that I really liek from PetShop.co.uk is their "Bottomless Bowl" subscription service, essentially it's a recurring order for the things you order all the time, you choose the items, how often you want them and then it's automatically ordered for you... which if you're short on time is a great idea and definitely something I'm going to look into!
I would definitely recommend you take a look at PetShop.co.uk for yourself, I'm really happy to have found them and will definitely go back and buy from them in the future!
If you give them a go, please let me know how you get on I'd love to know your thoughts!
Stay safe, and say hello to your furry (or feathered) friends for me x
