When you decide to decorate your bedroom, it can be hard to choose what furniture to buy for the room. You need to make a plan of what you exactly need to complete the room before you hit the shops. That way, it will stop you overbuying for your lovely bedroom. After all, a lot of people often look back with regret at the bedroom furniture they have bought. Therefore, don’t make these five errors when choosing bedroom furniture, so that the room is one of the best in your house.

1. Not buying enough to store all your belongings
If you are anything like me, your collection of clothes seems to grow every few months. And it’s hard to get rid of anything if you still love it all! Therefore, you need to make sure you are buying plenty of bedroom furniture to store all your belongings. Otherwise, you are going to struggle to find homes for those new outfits. After all, we do tend to buy smaller wardrobes and drawers to keep the cost down. But it won’t make your bedroom look attractive if dresses are hanging up on the door! And if you do over pile the clothes in your wardrobe and drawers, the pressure will cause them to break before long! Therefore, buy enough storage for your clothes so it keeps the bedroom looking great.

2. Not leaving enough space between items
Space is key in your bedroom if you want to create a beautiful look in the room. But a lot of us leave little space as we buy lots of pieces for our bedroom! But as we discussed before, large pieces may actually be taking up more room than they should! In fact, they might take the focus away from the best thing in the room; the bed! Also, having too many items in the room can make it look cluttered and it can affect your sleep. Therefore, you should make sure there is plenty of space in the room between items. Measure the space you are planning to put the item so you can work out if it will feel unbalanced and cramp in the room! That way, it will ensure you leave plenty of space in the room to create a calming and cozy room!

3. Not choosing something that will last in the long-term
You need to make sure you are making a well-researched decision when it comes to bedroom furniture. So many people pick a piece of furniture that ends up only lasting a year or two in their home. After all, people often look at the price before they make a decision. But it doesn’t last as it’s low-quality, and once you have put the items in the cabinet or wardrobe, it tends to fall apart as the material isn’t strong! Therefore, to make sure you choose something that will last in the long-term, you need to go for a good quality item which is made with a solid material. For example, choosing old antique chests made from oak or wood are going to be items that will last forever. Therefore, don’t just go for cheap choices for your bedroom if you want them to last in the room!

4. Not choosing a colour which doesn’t match with the wall
When you are choosing bedroom furniture for the room, you need to make sure that you are looking at the room as a whole. So many people regret buying colourful wardrobes and drawers as they often clash with the wall colour and carpet. Therefore, before you make a decision, you need to think about the colours in the room. For example, if you have white or cream walls, you might want to go for black cupboards for the room. Or if you have a floral design wallpaper, wooden bedroom furniture would look great. Therefore, make sure it matches before making a choice!

5. Not making impulse decisions at the shops
A lot of people head to the store and make a rushed decision on items for their bedroom. After all, they know they need to get something sooner rather than later. But if you do this, you might look back with regret at your decision. You might head to a different store and find some great bedroom furniture that would look fantastic in your room! Therefore, make sure you research different stores and the options they have before you buy anything! After all, as this article says, shopping for an entire room’s décor in one day is stressful and a bad idea!

And remember to make sure you are looking at instructions when buying furniture. You want to make the bedroom furniture last; not to fall down as you didn’t put the screw in the right place!

If you have any tips of your own I'd love to hear them, so please drop me a comment below!

I totally agree with buying something that will last for years, go for vintage or antique as they are far better built to last.
