Instant Ways To Transform Your Living Room

The quickest way to transform a room in my opinion is the lighting. I get so used to things being one way that even switching off the overhead light and putting on a lamp or two makes things feel somehow different. Already things feel better and more relaxing.

A lamp is a pretty easy thing to change or replace. If you have a good base, why not simply pick out a new shade? Moving floor lamps around helps light up areas of a room that I may not have noticed before. Changing the focus keeps it fresher and it feels more interesting.

Eyes always move towards the window. Curtain fabrics can be a great way to get funky or frivolous. Go for a deep velvet to boost the sumptuous. There’s a lovely mystery about being able to draw the curtains at this time of year. You don’t even have to change the rails. No one really notices them anyway!

Changing the colour of the walls can be a real boost and tonic. But if you don't have the time to paint right now, why not invest in a lovely piece of artwork? If an original painting is out of your reach, you could purchase a classic poster and get it framed. A good frame will really enhance the print and you’ll have a gorgeous focal point for your wall. No one will ever notice you haven’t painted!

I’m a big fan of rugs. I have found them a great way to bring not just a splash of colour, but a real sense of comfort into a room. At this time of year they really boost the snuggle factor.

Fireplaces are great focal points all the year round but if you don’t have one, why not get a range of candles in? They can be clustered around the hearth for a great effect. Or you could cover every available surface with tea lights for a lovely glowing mirage. That just feels like sitting in paradise.

I love my sofa, but I have to admit it’s seen better days. Even the best quality sofas can be really difficult to keep clean and fresh. Rather than replace it I think this ikea klippan sofa cover would be a brilliant option. The result is a new look sofa that will exceed expectations.

Add to that a scatter of cushions and the entire room has been transformed in the space of an afternoon. There is something rather satisfying and refreshing about a change, but I think I might just keep things as they are for a while.

I'd love to know your instant ways to transform your living space, so drop me a comment below!

Stay safe, and Merry Christmas! x
