I love being able to revamp my home from time to time. I’ve always got ideas for style changes. Sometimes I see something in the home section of a store or online and think that will look nice. As soon as I get it home, the rest of the room starts to evolve around it. I think it’s a good idea to refresh the decor from time to time. Rooms can get old and drab quite quickly, especially as the seasons change! For winter, I’m already thinking about cooler colour palettes. The heat and fire of burnt oranges and reds were spot on last season. While these warmer colours might help me feel less cold during the winter, I think it will be nice to head toward the cooler shades now. I love the duck egg blues and sagey greens that are making a big comeback right now. I may start my redesign with the soft furnishings, or maybe even some wall art. From there, I can rearrange the furniture. I might also check out what Wise Move Furniture have got in and pick up some new pieces. The choice of furniture can add a lot of character to a room. Different shades of wood bring different degrees of light. And I do love wood grain (even painted)! For winter, I think that a new rug is in order! I might choose a block colour if the texture is good. I like longer, woolly fibres at this time of year. It’s something I can dig my toes into, or even sit on with a good book. If you’re looking for a new rug, there are some great, vibrant colours out there. The geometric patterns that are popular will still look good for this season too. I've got a lovely cream and brown striped rug in the hall that has a lovely deep pile, if I could get a bigger one for the living room I would! I’m not too keen to completely repaint my room too often. Instead, I like to keep the walls fairly neutral (unfortunately in most of the house, this means magnolia). That way I can use wall art to add the splashes of colour I need from my chosen palette. Wall art isn’t particularly cheap at the moment, though. I’m hoping more places will have some discount offers on soon. If not, it may be time to don the paint roller, and get a feature wall in place! My curtains are long. Full-length curtains keep the draft out in winter and that is great for me. I’ve spotted some beautiful silk fabric curtains in the discount outlets lately. They are in a very wide range of colours and have a block pattern for interest. I think these will be perfect for me this season. When they are closed, they form an opposing force to the feature wall I’ve got in mind. A perfect Yin and Yang!
I know some people are really into Feng Shui when it comes to arranging the furniture in their rooms. I think most of us naturally design a room to flow and be balanced, we don't stick a table in the middle of where we want to walk. I don’t really have enough room to do much in the way of Feng Shui though. Instead, I find the colour balance to be quite important in the rooms I’m styling. Happy decorating! Let me know your thoughts as always! Stay safe, x
