I'm  in the middle of a bit of a home makeover, so I thought I'd share some tips with you! If you’re going to make improvements to your home, it makes sense that those changes all add some extra value to your home. This can stand you in good stead in the long-term when it comes to selling your home. But which improvements add the most value? It’s time to find out!

Improved Driveway
Of all the changes you can make to the outside of the home, improving the driveway is one that adds lots of value. This is because most family house buyers have a car or two that they want to keep protecting. And any driver knows that having to park your car on the road is never exactly ideal. People prefer to know that their car is safe and on their own property. So, if you can create a good, secure location where cars can be parked away from the danger of the road, value will be added. The path leading from our driveway to the door needs looking at, so this summer I'll be doing some concrete patching!

Kitchen Refurbishment
For many people, the most important room in the entire home is the kitchen. This is seen as the hub of the home. Some like to entertain guests there, and people eat there with their family in the morning and at the end of the day. For that reason, this is the room that you should be focusing on when making refurbishments. The kitchen should be modern, functional and as spacious as it possibly can be. A top kitchen will add a lot of value to your home! Luckily, our kitchen is perfect so I don't need to do any work here.

New Windows
The windows in your home are not just about making the home look good. Although it is undeniable that new windows always look fresher and cleaner than tired old ones. What’s even more important is that they make the home better insulated and more energy efficient. Modern windows are so much better at retaining heat inside the home. This adds a little extra value to the property. And if you choose decorative glass and glazing, the great appearance will add even more value. Again, not an area I need to concentrate on as we are double glazed throughout.

Loft Conversion
Adding an extra bedroom to your home is always going to add some extra value to your home. When people think about what kind of house they want to buy, they think about how many bedrooms they want. So, if you can sell your home as a four-room house rather than a three-room house, you will get more money for it. That’s why a loft conversion is a great home improvement to make to your home if you want to add value. It can be done relatively easily and adds a useful new room to the house!

Extension
Many people decide to add some extra space to their home via an extension. This can be added to the back or side of your home, and it will cost a lot of money. But try to look at it as a sound investment because you will make that money back in the long-term. It will also help you in the short-term because you will have a lot more space to enjoy. Remember to always consult an architect and your local planning laws!

So there's just some of the ways your home improvements could add value to your property. Do you have any of your own? Of course, just maintaining the decor will stop your home devaluing too much.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Stay safe, x
