*This is a collaborative post, because I'm lucky enough to be  a ValueLights blogger it contains PR samples.
All thoughts, opinions & photos (unless stated) are my own.*
Now I don't know about you guys but over the last few years I've become really focused on making things work for me, which means if it doesn't work for me, if it doesn't bring something then quite frankly I don't see why I should spend my time or money on it. Which means functional furniture has become something of an obsession for me..

Those of you who have been around here for a while will probably have seen my ValueLights features before, and will also know that I am usually very impressed with the products they offer on their site, this floor lamp shelving unit is no different.

The Wooden Shelving Unit Floor Lamp with Fabric Shade comes in three different colours; black (which I chose), white and oak, while the fabric shade is white no matter which colour wood you choose.

The unit features 3 shelves which are great sizes (plenty of room for tall books or vases) and a lamp at the top. It arrives flat-packed so you will need to assemble it yourself. You don't really get instructions, just a very vague diagram, but I found it quite easy to figure out...unlike other flat-pack items I've had from elsewhere in the past! All the screws/pegs you'll need do come with the pack.. although I found a couple of the screws were too short to fit properly so I had to replace them with ones I had around the house. You'll also need your own cross-head screwdriver. The light part is easy to do, the bulb holder is already fitted so you just assemble that shelf the same as the others then pop in the shade, which you just need to unfold.

Overall putting it together took about 10 minutes, not including the time I spent hunting for replacement screws, and was really quite easy to do! The finished project looks fab, and while it's strong and sturdy it's not too heavy so you'll be able to move it to wherever you need it with ease.

I was so impressed with just how functional this shelf light is that I couldn't decide where to put it! I was initially going to place it next to my TV to store DVDs on but I've settled (for now at least) with it on our landing upstairs, where it can hold books, flowers and also other little bits & pieces. It's very handy!

The light part takes a screw in bulb up to max 40W, and behind the shade it gives off a great light that is bright but not harsh so would be great for reading at night or just to avoid putting an overhead light on.

The Wooden Shelving Unit Floor Lamp with Fabric Shade costs £39.99 and I honestly think it's well worth the price for how versatile and functional it is. I didn't realise it was something I was missing until I had it and now I wouldn't want to be without it as it's so useful and really takes functional furniture to heart!

I'm so impressed that I'm seriously considering buying another one, so I can definitely recommend it to you!

What are your thoughts on this light and other functional furniture? Drop me a comment to let me know.

Stay safe,x
