Dogs, Ticks and Pumpkin Spice

I've had dogs all my life, and never, not once have any of them ever had a tick. Until Monday. I was giving Max a good brush (he's moulting so I could make another dog with all the hair that comes off him) and I found a grey lump on his ear. Despite never seeing one in real life, I've seen enough warnings to know that this was a dreaded tick!

But I had absolutely no way of getting it off. I know that you can't just pull them off, you're supposed to twist... I also knew that you buy a small plastic tool that takes them off easily.. but I did not have one!

So I did the only thing I could... I rang our friendly vet and thankfully they weren't busy that day so we were able to pop down within 10 minutes.

Max loves going to the vets... I'm fairly certain he views it as a kind of doggie coffee morning.

The vet was able to remove the tick straight away and she even saved me a job by trimming his ears while she was at it (they get matted in seconds... Springers get their ears everywhere).

Max behaved impeccably the whole time and was such a good boy so I thought he deserved a treat for the way home!

Our vets sell all sorts of treats and toys... which all the animals are fascinated by as you can imagine. But when I saw these Pumpkin Spice treats I knew I had to buy them!

I hate all things pumpkin and I hate the commercialisation of pumpkin spice.. it's everywhere these days... but it seemed seasonal and I knew Max would like them.

Apparently they're very yummy!

Oh and I've also bought some tick remover tools, as well as replacing the dog's flea and tick collar (it was quite new but obviously wasn't doing it's job).

Do you have problems with ticks? I'd love to know your stories and any tips you have to share!

Hopefully Max won't get any more :D

Stay safe, x
