A new year and a new Birchbox! This month they've partnered up with Ohh Dear, who are apparently a stationery brand but I hadn't heard of them before. The box is gorgeous though, I love the pattern and I think they did a great job on the design. Inside the box is a sheet of Ohh Dear stickers, which are looking great in my diary and a voucher for 20% on their website.
But none of that is the real reason you're here, so let's take a look at what was in my box:
1. Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon - Peach - Full Size - RRP £15
This is the product that everyone will get in their January box, with a choice between two colours; peach (above) or camelia. I chose peach because I thought it would suit my skintone more, but I'm not a big blush wearer really. It's a nice enough product and blends out nicely, but on top of foundation I found it moved my other makeup around underneath so it's probably best used alone.
2. Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner - Charcoal - RRP £10.99
I'm always a fan of eyeliner and Marcelle is a new brand for me so I was happy to try this out. It claims to be long-lasting, smudge-resistant and waterproof, which I'm not entirely sure about. I didn't find that it lasted any longer than my other eyeliner pencils, and it still smudged if you rubbed it. In terms of waterproof-ness, I didn't put that to the test but it still washed off easily. The charcoal is a little less harsh than black and it's a nice eyeliner.. but it's nothing special so while I'll happily keep using it I wouldn't rebuy it for £10.99.
3. Thermaliv Night Cream - RRP £15.75
This comes with the claim of restructuring and nourishing properties, thanks to sea chamomile to boost collagen and vitamin E to soothe. I love a good night cream and I adored this product from Thermaliv. It's a lot thinner in consistency than my usual moisturisers, but it felt very hydrating and absorbed quickly and my skin definitely looked more awake and healthier the next morning (I was glowing people!). I think this is well worth it's price and as it's the best night cream I've used in a long time I'll happily be purchasing a full size when this is finished.
4. Beaver Professional Daily Conditioning Spray - RRP £11.50
I'm generally not a fan of haircare in boxes because I'm really picky when it comes to what I use on my hair, but Beaver is another new brand for me so I was ready to try it out. It felt nice enough when sprayed onto damp hair but I'm not convinced it did anything to detangle, and when my hair was dry it actually felt drier than if I hadn't used it so I'm also not convinced by the conditioning claims. For me this did absolutely nothing, despite the fact it should've been perfectly suited to my hair so I'll be leaving this one in the cupboard.
5. Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover - RRP £5.50
I'd heard of cloths like this, that apparently magically remove makeup with just water but this is my first time putting one to the test. After a quick wash in the washing machine before first use you just wet it and wipe it over your face. I found it did remove both face and eye makeup and definitely felt nice to use, but I don't think it did as good of a job as a face wipe.. I remove most of my makeup with a face wipe before going on to cleanse with my Clarisonic so this isn't a huge problem for me, but then there's the added question of hygiene.. how often do I need to wash it? It's going to have my makeup on so do I need to wash it after every use? I don't have time for that. It's nice enough and might be a good fit for other people, but it's only going to be an ocassional use for me.
Overall, I liked the January Birchbox. The design is gorgeous and I've got use out of all 5 products which is always a bonus, and with the exception of the conditioning spray, I will use them all again.
If you got different products in your Birchbox I'd love to know your thoughts so drop me a comment below, or tell me if you have a subscription box you think I should try out!
