There are many ways to live a healthier life, to the extent that it’s becoming harder and harder to avoid. Those of us who enjoy a sedentary lifestyle know this, even if we try to convince ourselves otherwise. We are then faced with the choice of ignoring what we know, or acknowledge the need to fit the healthy lifestyle around the things we enjoy doing. Self-deception only works for so long.
The truth of the matter is that it’s easy to see avoiding the gym and the concept of wellness as cool. Rock stars live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse (according to a particularly morbid saying). What that old saying doesn’t cover is that when the cameras aren’t rolling, those guys are busy dealing with cramps, sweating and generally feeling like death.
Once you accept that health and wellness are essential, the good news is that there are ways to maintain it without feeling like you’ve sold out. The roll of honour is as follows:
Let Your Music Choices Fly Free
Look, no-one’s saying you have to work out to the often obnoxious dance mixes in the gym. If you want to, that’s fine. With that said, we all have our fight music. Those songs that make you feel like you could break rocks with your fists. Get them on a playlist, put the earphones in and blast the calories away. No-one needs to know that it’s 75% Taylor Swift if you don’t want them to. Lacking inspiration? Workout song rundowns can be your friend.
There’s No Set Way To Eat Healthily
We’re all familiar with diet gurus claim that if you’re not eating a certain type of bean with every meal, you’re a monster and are going to Hell. Any diet guru who is telling you that there is one sure way to eat healthily is a liar. Don’t pig out on takeaways. Do get plenty of fresh green veg. Don’t, whatever anyone tells you, live on nothing but maple syrup or cabbage water for a month.
Workout Clothes Don’t Need To Look Garish
Time spent in the gym can make you feel like you’ll never get fit if you’re not prepared to be dressed like an extra from a mid-90s music video. Fortunately, fashion and fitness can mesh well. Online retailers like Lorna Jane are producing more and more outfits that can stand up to a workout and look stylish at the same time. You don’t have to go DayGlo to get fit anymore.
Cycling Is The New Black
Although don’t wear black if you’re cycling at night. That’s important. The truth is, it’s becoming more and more on-trend to cycle instead of driving or taking the bus. After the initial outlay, it saves a bunch of money and allows you to get aerobic and muscular exercise. What’s not to like about that? If you'd ike to know more about just how amazing cycling is for you then head over to the Biking Expert and read this post!
These are simply some tips that you can follow if you want to get fit without feeling like it’s a huge change. You may have some ideas of your own and if you do, go with them - it’s a sure way to feel like the best version of yourself.
