There's one thing you'll notice about a British summer...at the first sign of sunshine & warmth, people tend to go a little bit BBQ mad! Everyone flocks to the store to buy charcoal, lighter fluid, burgers, sausages, beer and just about everything else as well.
But as it was National BBQ week last week I thought I'd take a look at how to have the best possible BBQ you can, because there's still a whole summer of grilling ahead of us.
The first thing you consider has to be the food and I think everyone has their own favourite BBQ food. Some like hotdogs, others prefer ribs or steaks, chicken in various flavours is quite popular and then of course there are BURGERS.. my personal favourite.
There are so many different foods you can grill and you probably haven't even considered all of the options available to you! We all cook meat on the BBQ but what about fruit and vegetables?! I've put together a pinterest board full of recipes that I can't wait to try this summer..
But as I said it's burgers that are my personal favourite and for me the focus of any BBQ has to be on the burger, so I thought I'd tell you what I think makes a perfect BBQ burger.. (you can actually see my latest yummy creation at the top of this page).
Drinks probably come secondary to food, but only just! Some like beer, others prefer wine.. while I'm completely tea-total so I tend to go for lemonade, juice or some other soft drink. Again there's a few options on the pinterest board I shared earlier.
A really nice way to serve your drink is in mason jars with some fancy straws.. I found some lovely floral ones the other day, which are perfect for summer parties, but I'm also a big fan of my new stainless steel straws because they're reusable so I can reduce waste!
Because it's likely to be hot when you're grilling, you'll be wanting ice in your drinks! There are a couple of options; shaped ice cubes, ice with fruit in (cucumber and strawberries are great options) or even try "whisky rocks" which I've recently found.. they're sort of glass cubes that you put in the freezer then add to your drinks..always ready and you don't need trays that take up space in your freezer.
There are now so many different products out there to make your BBQ the best it can be so honestly just look around and you're bound to find something you love... whether it's a hot-dog flipper cage thing or just some nice solar lights that you can hang from your garden fence; there is something for everyone and I'm sure you're going to have some great fun grilling this summer!
I'd love to know what you think makes a great BBQ or if you have any funny stories to share for National BBQ Week please share them in a comment below. ?
