Today, thousands of people across the UK work from home and have their own beautifully designed home offices. You might think that you have everything in your office that you could need, but I bet you don’t have these things.
While they may not be seen as office basics, trust me, these four things are definite office must-haves. Want to know more? 1. Inspirational quotes Let’s be honest about it, the fun of working from home aside, it isn’t always easy. When you’ve got no boss breathing down your neck making sure that you get your work done on time, it’s easy to lose motivation. However, by swapping a couple of your pieces of wall art for inspirational quotes, you can help to motivate yourself. It doesn't matter who the quotes that you choose are from, just as long as they motivate you. I have 2 "inspirational" quotes stuck to my notice board above my desk. The first says "Throw me to the wolves, and I will return leading the pack" and the other says "This is a bullshit free zone". I adore both of them! You don't have to have your inspiration on the wall of course, you could have it on a mug! 2. A coffee machine Sometimes, when you are working hard and have no time to stop, all you want is a lovely frothy coffee. That’s one of the downsides of working from home; you can’t just head to Starbucks whenever you fancy a latte. However, what you can do is invest in a coffee machine for your office. An instant coffee pod machine, like one of the Tassimo systems, is perfect for having in your office. It’s simple to use, comes with lots of coffee options - including flavoured lattes, and will make little mess. To keep your pods nice and neat, you could even buy yourself a coffee pod stand. To find out more about these, have a browse online - there are lots of designs to choose from. I definitely want a coffee machine, and I'm on the lookout for one that won't break the bank! 3. A Blanket This may sound like a bit of a strange one, but hear me out. Often, we can get chilly while we work, which leads to us turning on the heating and wasting energy. Instead, store a cute throw in your office, then when you start to feel cold, drape it over your lap. If you plan on storing it out of sight, the design that you opt for doesn’t matter. However, if you plan on placing your throw over the arm of a chair or on a shelf, be choosy about its design. Opt for a blanket that fits the style of your office, including the colour scheme that's in place. I have a red tartan fleece blanket that I drape over my chair when I'm not using it. It normally ends up over my feet as I get cold toes all the time! 4. Personalised coffee coasters If you’re going to have coffee in your office, unless you want to ruin your desk, you’re going to need coffee coasters. Instead of opting for a generic design, how about getting some personalised coasters? (Yes, these do exist and they are fantastic!) Lots of websites offer personalised coffee coasters, including designs and quotes of your choice. Come up with some designs that you like - draw these or find ideas online, and then order how many of each you want. My coaster is actually a photo of my dog, which might seem silly as he's normally next to me, but I love him! These four things may not be office essentials, but they are definitely things that every home office needs. Well, at least, I think so anyway! Would you like to see a bit more about where I work?
